Who are Jack & Diane? They are just regular folks that believe in giving from the soul the best possible offerings of themselves to provide a bit of love and comfort to their ever growing family of patrons that frequent their home.
The inspiration for the name came from the beloved John Cougar Mellencamp song as my sister and I were discussing the feel of the restaurant. We wanted a name that would portray the feeling of loved ones and old friends sharing time together over a great memorable meal.
A feeling of togetherness, good times, laughter and making memories, the feeling of our childhood, growing up with a Sunshine state grandma and Dakota grandpa, where every weekend was spent gathered around the table for an early supper with biscuits and greens flyin’ every direction the only sounds heard were, “pass the black eyed peas, please” and, “can I have more salad”.
The name is definitely homage to the greatest love story we ever knew, the love story of our grandparents, married for more than 60 years. Photos of them can be seen all around the restaurant, which is situated in an old shotgun house built in 1862. Rumored to have been the Madame’s house in the pirate days, our resident ghost Charlie must have been a charmed client…he still visits often.
Our recipes are family traditions and traveled inspirations we feel they meld worldly flavors with familiar comfort. We pride ourselves on preparing all dishes using, fresh locally grown foods whenever possible and preparing all dishes with the least amount of fat and the most flavor we can, all at once.
We always enjoy the challenge of preparing foods that taste great and meet the needs of our ever growing population of specialty diet patrons as well, we have several vegan and gluten free options available, just ask.
